Two days dedicated to the wolf in the high and wild Taro valley, a territory in which we have been following several packs of wolves for over six years.

The field is aimed at all those who wish to know or deepen their knowledge on this controversial and fascinating predator, learn to recognize and interpret the signs of presence left by wolves and other fauna, deepen the monitoring techniques, understand the impacts that the presence del lupo exercises on human activities, spending two days in the field where we will explore woods, paths and ridges used by wild animals in search of signs of presence.
We will begin the activities with an in-depth didactic part on biology, ethology and impacts on human activities also comparing ourselves with the owners of the farmhouse that hosts sheep and donkey farmers, and then we will dedicate ourselves to field activities, excursions, stalking for observations to the fauna. , research and interpretation of traces and signs of presence, control of photo-video-traps and in-depth analysis of monitoring techniques.

Program

Saturday April 30th
Meeting at Agriturismo il Pellegrino at 9.30 am accommodation in the rooms, didactics on the wolf with meeting with the owners of the farm on the difficulties and tools used for the protection of farmed animals, lunch. In the afternoon, transfer by own means and departure for a short excursion to an area much used by wolves, looking for signs of presence with photo-video traps control and to follow a stakeout at sunset. Return to the farmhouse and dinner based on local products.

Sunday May 1th
Breakfast and check out, transfer by own means to follow an excursion through the valleys, woods and ridges of the very high Taro valley, where we will have an excellent chance of spotting several birds of prey (buzzards, white eagles, golden eagles). Return to the starting point at 17.30 pm and closing of the activities.

What to bring

Layered trekking equipment (to better adapt to different temperatures) suitable for the mountain environment; remember to bring a minimum 1l water bottle, rain jacket or waterproof, something heavy to wear when we will be stationary for a long time during the stakeout for wildlife observations, and also something waterproof (a small towel or even a bag) to place on the ground to sit down. Bring shoes with sculpted soles, waterproof if possible and high ankle (eg hiking boots), binoculars, flashlight (preferably frontal). Sunscreen and tick repellent. Bright and too visible colors should be avoided, colors such as dark gray, military green, brown are to be preferred.

Difficulty level: E (hiking)

In a mountain environment, on paths they do not require particular technical skills, they cross wooded and open areas.
Average excursion distance 6-12 km from 200 to 500 meters of positive altitude difference.

Il Pellegrino farmhouse:
to be given directly on site: € 75 which includes
overnight stay for lunch and dinner on Saturday, breakfast, packed lunch on Sunday.

Event reserved for members of I am not afraid of the wolf in order with the annual membership fee.
Minors must be accompanied by at least one adult.

The activities will be carried out in compliance with the anti COVID-19 directives.
All participants must comply with the provisions that will be communicated by our association, keep a safe distance and avoid gatherings of any kind.
