For the first time we will go to Puglia on the trail of wolves and marine fauna. We will explore the paths and habitats in the lands of the Trulli and the Gravine together with the friends of the WWF Monte Sant'Elia who follow the local herds, we will meet a breeder and his cattle protection dogs to discuss issues related to coexistence. We will then dedicate a whole day to the sighting of cetaceans with an enthusiastic outing on a catamaran in the Gulf of Taranto.

Program

Thursday September 15st
Arrival by own means in the late afternoon at the WWF Monte Sant'Elia Oasis Visitor Center. Accommodation, free time, dinner and overnight stay.
The visitor center where we will be staying has a fully equipped kitchen, a large room where we will sleep and a shared bathroom. It is necessary to bring the mattress and the sleeping bag with you.

Friday September 16st
workshop on the wolf with the experts of the Gravine area, excursion on the paths of the wolves, recognition of signs of presence, monitoring techniques. Packed lunch, stakeout for wildlife observation, dinner and overnight stay.

Saturday 17rd September
Catamaran trip for the observation of marine fauna. The biologists expert in the methods of sighting and recognition of cetaceans of Jonian Dolphin Conservation will accompany us with their 40-foot catamaran designed and built specifically for research on cetaceans, equipped with hydrophone for recording and treatment of vocalizations, underwater cameras for live viewing of cetaceans while diving. Packed lunch, return to the oasis in the late afternoon, dinner at Masseria Cicerone and overnight stay.

Sunday September 18th
We will go to Masseria Cicerone where the breeder will tell us about his experience of coexistence with the wolf and the evolution after the introduction of LGDs to defend his flock. Lunch and camp closure.

What to bring

Layered trekking clothing suitable for the period, waterproof jacket, fleece or sweatshirt, backpack (30-40 liters), swimsuit, mattress and sleeping bag / sheet bag, rain cover, bottle or thermos (minimum 1 l) , sunscreen, disinfectant gel, toothbrush and toothpaste, personal towel, comfortable t-shirt and trousers for the night, emergency kit (compeed®, patches, drugs), ear plugs (recommended). For the boat: socks or neoprene shoes or shoes with which you have not walked on the street, jacket, hat or visor.

Difficulty level: E (hiking)

Excursion in a hilly environment on paths that cross wooded areas and open areas that do not require special technical skills.

From Bari and Taranto: from the SS 100 exit at Mottola and continue towards Noci for 5,6 km up to a bend on the left. Shortly after, turn right towards Martina Franca; continue for about 5 km until you find the road that leads to the oasis on the right. Follow it for about 2 km up to the farm.

From Martina Franca: follow the signs for Mottola and continue for about 22 km until you take the sheep track on the left which will lead you to the oasis farm for about 2 km.

Minors must be accompanied by at least one adult.

The activities will be carried out in compliance with the anti COVID-19 directives.
All participants must comply with the provisions that will be communicated by our association, keep a safe distance and avoid gatherings of any kind.
