Three days and two nights in the heart of the Ghirardi Regional Nature Reserve, for an immersive experience in close contact with nature by staying in a suggestive structure.

We will explore the protected area step by step, looking for signs of the presence of the fauna that inhabits it; we will position video traps to observe their activity in a discreet but effective way; we will learn how not to disturb the fallow deer, the undisputed protagonists of this study field while we enjoy the show that they stage every year: roars, chases and real battles to ensure access to reproduction.
All this in the suggestive autumnal atmosphere of the Reserve, where the woods are tinged with warm colors, the clouds rest on the bottom of the valleys and the dew makes the meadows sparkle.
We will stay in typical stone houses, made even more comfortable by the heat of stoves and fireplaces, and we will eat excellent organic food at zero km. And if someone does not want to go out into the crisp morning air to take a stand to observe the fallow deer before breakfast, they can still look at them directly from the window! "

 Program

Friday 21 October
Meeting at 14.00 pm. Arrival on foot to the house and placing of luggage.
Didactics on fallow deer biology, ethology, age classes and monitoring techniques by Maria Chiara Valenti, naturalist specialized in management and conservation of the environment and fauna.
Following didactic on the use of photo-video traps.
Short excursion with photo-video traps positioning tests and stalking at sunset for wildlife observations at the fallow deer arenas. Return home and dinner. For all outings for wildlife observations we will divide into small groups of 4-5 people, each led by our volunteers, so as not to disturb the animals.

Saturday October 22
Appointment at dawn for wildlife observations at the fallow deer fighting arenas (optional).
Breakfast followed by an excursion to the Ghirardi Reserve on the trail of the fallow deer with packed lunch, collection of the previously placed photo-video traps.
Wildlife observations at sunset, dinner followed by control of the videos recorded by the video traps.

Sunday, October 23
Appointment at dawn for wildlife observations at the fallow deer fighting arenas (optional)
Ring excursion in the Reserve. Packed lunch. Return by 16 pm and activity closes.

What to bring

Layered trekking clothing suitable for the period, waterproof jacket, fleece or sweatshirt, backpack (30-40 liters), swimsuit, sleeping bag and sheet, rain cover, water bottle or thermos (minimum 1 l), sun protection cream , disinfectant gel, toothbrush and toothpaste, personal towel, comfortable t-shirt and trousers for the night, ear plugs (recommended). 

Difficulty level: E (hiking)

Excursion in a high hill environment on paths that cross wooded areas and open areas that do not require special technical skills.

Event reserved for members of I am not afraid of the wolf in order with the annual membership fee.
Minors must be accompanied by at least one adult.

The activities will be carried out in compliance with the anti COVID-19 directives.
