In recent days the Association I'm not afraid of the wolf sent a letter to theAlessio Mammi, Councilor for Agriculture and Agri-food, Hunting and Fishing, and EU Relations for the Emilia-Romagna Region, and for information to Municipality of Tornolo (PR), to highlight some critical issues related to the management of public communication on the topic of wolves and the need to ensure a balanced and scientifically based approach for the benefit of citizens.

In recent weeks, in fact, in the Alta Val Taro area (province of Parma) have occurred some episodes of predation and attempted predation by wolves against domestic dogs, in some cases in the close presence of peopleThese are events which, although representing anomalous situations to be investigated with technical expertise, they understandably have generated strong apprehension among the local population, arousing public concern and debate.

The Association has asked the Region to intervene urgently, through its institutional and technical staff, where there are risk situations or abnormal behavior by wolves, in order to ensure a correct evaluation of cases application of the measures provided for by the regional and national protocols and, where necessary and in compliance with current legislation, the removal of the individuals involved that they should exhibit abnormal behavior.

In a context of this type, the association writes, it is It is also essential that institutions, and in particular municipal administrations, manage communication with citizens in a transparent, balanced and evidence-based manner., making use of qualified personnel and approach respectful of the principles of impartiality and pluralism.

In this regard, I am not afraid of the wolf has reported that the Municipality of Tornolo (PR) has promoted a public meeting on the topic of the wolf for the next few days, without the involvement of competent technicians or scientific bodies, but with the sole participation of political representatives. An approach that transforms a complex theme of collective interest intoon an occasion of mere political propaganda, rather than in a moment of information and discussion useful to the community.

For these reasons, I'm not afraid of the wolf wishes an intervention by the Emilia-Romagna Region, so that guarantee compliance with the principles of impartiality, plurality and technical competence in public meetings promoted or sponsored by local authorities on the topic of the wolf.

"It's important that the public debate on the wolf," the association concludes, "remains grounded in knowledge, expertise, and responsibility, preventing local fears or tensions from being exploited for political purposes, as is happening in the Taro Valley. Coexistence can only be built through listening, transparency, and everyone's commitment, not through propaganda to the detriment of the community."
